TODAY’S ACTION: Hold Facebook and Cambridge Analytica accountable!

Please call/email/text your reps today to request that they hold Facebook and Cambridge Analytica accountable for the massive data breach! Our data is too easily available for hackers to steal and in this case, Facebook seems to have just given Trump’s team 50 million users data!

“They say ‘trust us,’ but Mark Zuckerberg needs to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee about what Facebook knew about misusing data from 50 million Americans in order to target political advertising and manipulate voters,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said in a statement.

Also send Facebook a message or tweet about it to have them hold themselves accountable for fixing the problem in the future and issuing an apology.

TODAY’S ACTION: Protect Election Integrity

This was posted on the Indivisible Allies of Minnesota Facebook page and I’m sharing it as I think it’s very important for the upcoming November elections.

Securing Our Elections
Representative Tulsi Gabbard has introduced HR 5147, Securing Our Elections Act. https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/5147
This bill asks for emergency funding to make sure every state can adopt a paper ballot voting system that can be audited to ensure the integrity of our elections. We have until the end of March to get this through if we want it to apply to November’s midterm elections.

Please call your reps to ask them to support this bill to ensure election integrity.

Big news today: Tillerson is out, to be replaced by Pompeo.

MN Residents Action:

MN Residents – Important action today! I’m copying this over from Indivisible Allies of Minnesota (please like and follow them as well).
Let’s go local today, folks. Our Minnesota legislature is up and running and the GOP controlled Congress will try to get their agenda through in a hurry.
Today the MN House will hold hearings on two bills that affect Minnesota’s health insurance marketplace, MNSure. Remember when Trump attempted to sabotage the Affordable Care Act by essentially eliminating the advertising budget, reducing the sign up time, and removing mandates? MNSure sheltered us from much of that nonsense. Now Republicans are trying to attack our insurance at the state level.

HF2725 Instead of MNSure, the statewide health insurance market, this bill would give each county money to come up with their own insurance solution. This will lead to a patchwork of different insurance coverages. This bill will make Minnesota’s insurance more complicated and more expensive.
The Government Operations and Elections Policy Committee will have a hearing today, at 10:15 am, so get your calls and emails in ASAP. Here is a list of the committee members. If your representative is on this committee, call or email him/her. Otherwise, you can contact the committee chair, Tim O’Driscoll

http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/comm/committeemembers.asp?comm=90011
HF3543 This bill caps the amount of fees MNSure can collect to 25% more than they collected in 2012. Since MNSure uses the fees to pay for operating expenses, this bill will attenuate MNSure’s ability to provide service to its customers.
The Commerce and Regulatory Reform Committee will hold a hearing on this bill today at 3 pm. Here is a list of the committee members. If your representative is on this committee, call or email him/her. Otherwise you can contact the committee chair, Joe Hoppe.

TODAY’S ACTIONS: Say no to arming teachers

Action #1: Please call your reps to let them know you disagree with Trump’s proposal to arm teachers and other school personnel. I agree that improving background checks must be done and this plan takes a small baby step in the right direction. Let your reps know they should also endorse a separate proposal from Sens. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Joe Manchin, D-WV, that would extend background checks to gun purchases made online and at gun shows to close more loopholes.

Action #2: ND residents: please call Heidi and John to let them know you disagree with their yes votes on rolling back Frank-Dodd consumer protections and ask them to reconsider their stance as debate continues and the vote happens sometime this week. MN residents: please call Tina and Amy to see how they intend to vote and urge them to vote no.

This week’s actions: a little bit of everything

A few things to do this week:
1. Call John Hoeven, Kevin Cramer and Collin Peterson and tell them to stop accepting money from the NRA and to donate what they have received to an organization that supports gun control like Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

2. Call your senators and reps to tell them to act now to protect Net Neutrality. Protections expire April 23rd.

3. Call your senators and reps to tell them to continue to fight for a clean Dream Act to protect Dreamers.

4. Start thinking about your game plan for the upcoming election. Do you want to host a yard sign, phone bank, do you want to be a door knocker or a volunteer at a local office? We’re hoping to compile a list of contact information for local, state and federal races so you know who to call to get started.

5. If you see related events towards our mission please feel free to share them with the facebook group or email the details to indivisiblefm@gmail.com and we’ll get them posted for you.

WALKOUT UPDATE

WALKOUT UPDATE: We have decided to step back and let students take the lead on the national walkout planned for March 14. We are working on planning something for March 24.

We have gotten multiple media inquiries about the walkout. If you know of a student or student group who would like to talk to the media about their plans for a walkout, you can put them in touch with us via messenger or at indivisiblefm@gmail.com, and we’ll connect them with the reporters who have asked about it.

Here is some information to pass along to the students in your life about how to organize a walkout.

#Enough. Now is the time to talk about sensible gun control.

My heart hurts as I’m sure yours does too after hearing about the school shooting in Florida that killed 17 people yesterday. Now is the time to talk about sensible gun control. People should not be allowed to carry around semi and fully automatic assault rifles!
This is the 18th school shooting this year. 16 kids are hurt or killed each day by guns. Inaction does nothing. Thoughts and prayers does nothing. Please call your reps today to express your outrage on their inaction.

TODAY’S ACTION: URGENT! Protect the ADA

URGENT: The House of Representatives is about to vote on HR 620. the misleadingly named ADA Education & Reform Act, a bill designed to weaken the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It is scheduled for a vote in the House on Thurs, Feb 15, 2018.
If HR 620 passes, businesses would no longer have to comply wth the ADA. Instead, the bill requires that people with disabilities research the code, write a highly specific and complicated letter to businesses, and then wait 6 months or longer to maybe gain access. This is the way it was prior to the ADA!
HR 620 REMOVES THE CIVIL RIGHTS OF DISABLED PEOPLE! It will result in people with disabilities having to wait to access places and services that all American have access to everyday. HR 620 asks people with disabilities to wait months to be able to enter places like stores, restaurants, hotels, and theaters. This would not be asked of any other group.
A vibrant economy and a fair society depend on everyone having access to the marketplace of goods, services and ideas. People with disabilities live in every community. We are your sons and daughters; sisters and brothers; mothers and fathers; your neighbors; your employees; your employers; your customers; and your business owners!

Please call Reps Kevin Cramer and Collin Peterson requesting them to vote no on HR 620. Thank you!

TODAY’S MINNESOTA ACTION: Caucus!

Minnesotans, tonight is caucus night. If you’re in Moorhead, your caucus location is the Comstock Memorial Union at MSUM.

WHY CAUCUS? This is your opportunity to get involved in the DFL so you can make sure it represents your values. That’s a lot easier to do if you’re involved on more than just election days.

Several things will happen at the caucus, but one of the big ones is the election of delegates to the county convention. For Clay County, that meeting will be on February 24 at 2 pm in the CMU. At the county convention, county party officers will be elected, as well as delegates to the congressional and state conventions. So if you want to be involved in any of that, the first step is to show up to caucus tonight.

You’ll also have the opportunity to hear from representatives from Minnesota’s gubernatorial candidates, to learn more about why they are running.

WHEN: Tuesday, February 6. Registration begins at 6:30 and voting begins at 7. The caucus is scheduled to end by 8.

WHERE: Moorhead residents caucus at the Comstock Memorial Union at MSUM. When you arrive you’ll be directed into the room for your precinct. Not in Moorhead? Find your caucus location here.

WHY: Make your voice heard!
