Action for Week #5 of Campaign Against Brett Kavanaugh for Supreme Court

It’s already Week #5 in the campaign against this Administration’s pick for the Supreme Court and we can’t stop now. The senators who vote on the confirmation of a Supreme Court justice must rely on documentation on the nominee’s past opinions, decisions, actions, and writings to make an informed decision. If the necessary documentation isn’t provided, the confirmation hearing shouldn’t be held. Let’s get ready to MAKE NOISE!

All of the Democratic senators sitting on the Judiciary Committee have filed FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests for more information on Brett Kavanaugh to several government agencies asking for documents relating to the three-year period Kavanaugh served as a staff assistant to George W. Bush. This is the first time senators have had to use a FOIA request to get documents tied to a Supreme Court nominee.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley sent a letter late last month to the National Archives requesting documents solely from Kavanaugh’s time as a White House lawyer, and not from his tenure as staff secretary. But because Democrats are in the minority, they can’t force Republicans to request the additional documents necessary for making an informed decision.

The National Archives informed Grassley last week that it would not be able to fulfill his documents request until the end of October. And yet, it was announced this week that the Senate was starting Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing on September 4th.

There is no way the Judiciary Committee will even have the limited documents that Grassley requested by the September 4th hearing date.

Contact your senators regarding this most important of all appointments. Tell them “No Docs – No Confirmation!”

Make your voices heard! Tell you senators what needs to be done for our country and our future! Call, write, fax, email, and visit their offices! MAKE NOISE!
